The new method of assisting Australians with disabilities and their families and caregivers is known as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (also known as the NDIS).

The NDIS provides funding to eligible people with disabilities in order for them to spend more time with family and friends, gain more independence, gain access to new skills, jobs, or volunteer in their community, and have a better quality of life. The NDIS also connects people with disabilities to community services. This includes links to doctors, community groups, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries, and schools, as well as information about the services offered by each state and territory government.
