“Supported Independent Living (SIL)”

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a service provided under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Australia. It is designed to support individuals with disabilities to live independently in a community setting. SIL allows individuals to live in a shared accommodation arrangement with others who have similar support needs or, in some cases, live on their own.

The support provided through SIL can vary depending on the specific needs and goals of the individual. It can include assistance with daily living activities such as cooking, cleaning, personal care, managing finances, and accessing community services. The aim of SIL is to enhance the individual’s independence and enable them to participate in community life as much as possible.

About Us

What is NDIS?

Supported Independent Living

Supported independent living is one type of support to help you live in your home. It includes help or supervision with daily tasks, like personal care or cooking meals. It helps you live as independently as possible, while building your skills.

How can I get funding to live in a SIL house?

To acquire funding for residing in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) residence, there are various avenues you can explore. Supported Independent Living is a support package under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) that enables individuals to live independently or with other individuals with disabilities. If you do not currently possess NDIS SIL funding, we are capable of assisting you in procuring the necessary funding. To obtain further information regarding SIL, I suggest visiting the Supported Independent Living page on the official NDIS website.

It’s important to note that the NDIS SIL support package does not cover rent and boarding expenses. However, there are alternative methods to cover these costs, such as utilizing your Disability Support Pension, Commonwealth Rent Assistance, or any other sources of income you may have at your disposal.

Self-funded and Fee for Service Packages

Our disability supports and services are accessible to everyone, even if you don’t have government-approved funding packages like NDIS. Self-funding is a convenient option that allows you to pay for our services using your own money. It offers flexibility, especially if you have a specific request or if your government funding package doesn’t fully cover your needs. Additionally, you have the option to self-fund while waiting for approval of a funding package.

There are several compelling reasons to consider Supported Independent Living as the ideal choice for NDIS participants:

Supported Independent Living offers a wonderful opportunity for individuals to embrace a greater level of independence, whether they choose to live alone or with others.

This accommodation option perfectly caters to those who have specific goals that align with both assisted living and residential living. It provides a supportive environment to help individuals achieve their objectives.

Supported Independent Living ensures that individuals receive the necessary person-to-person assisted living support. This support is tailored to their unique needs, ensuring a safe and accessible home environment.

It's worth noting that eligibility criteria must be met to access Supported Independent Living. However, once the criteria are fulfilled, individuals can benefit from the many advantages it offers.

First Call Home Care Supported Independent Living (SIL)provides the perfect balance between independence and support, making it an excellent choice for NDIS participants seeking a safe and conducive living environment.
NDIS Funding Information (including eligibility criteria)
Supported Independent Living is a comprehensive NDIS support package that offers individuals the opportunity to reside either with fellow individuals who have disabilities or on their own, according to their unique circumstances and requirements. By collaborating with your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator, you can determine whether Supported Independent Living aligns with your needs. Together, you will carefully consider various factors, such as the specific supports you require in your living space, your age (as SIL caters to individuals aged 18 and above), your aspirations and preferences, as well as your desire for independence and skills development. Additionally, we will assess whether modifications to your home or the utilization of assistive technology can enhance your autonomy and safety. It is essential to provide any relevant information, reports, and assessments from yourself, healthcare professionals, and other service providers. If you require substantial person-to-person support due to your disability, we will take this into account as well. We will also explore alternative home and living options that may suit your circumstances, always considering value for money. For further information regarding Supported Independent Living, we encourage you to visit the dedicated page on the NDIS website. Lastly, please note that the NDIS SIL support package does not cover rent and boarding costs. However, you can utilize your Disability Support Pension, Commonwealth Rent Assistance, or any other sources of income you may have to cover these expenses.
